Lead Certified Nurse-Midwife, Department of Ob/Gyn

Centering Pregnancy has been an integral part of prenatal care at UCSF for over 10 years and is well supported by the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences. Midwives have been part of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Division for over 20 years.

The Department of Ob, Gyn & RS, MFM, is seeking a Lead CNM whose responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  1. Patient Care: Labor & Delivery and attending births with our OBGYN residents, OB Triage seeing patients of all risk levels, and postpartum rounding.

  2. Clinical Leadership: Work with L &D Medical Director(s) and Lead Hospitalist to provide leadership on inpatient services such as:
    a. Maintain Clinical Responsibilities Schedule
    b. Clinical Student Assignments
    c. Data Collection and Productivity assessment and planning
    d. Development and maintenance of Policies, Guidelines and Patient Safety Guidelines

  3. Management of CNM Faculty and Staff: General supervisor/management duties such as:
    a. Hiring and Onboarding new CNM Faculty and Staff
    b. Performance reviews and evaluation of CNM Faculty and Staff
    c. CNM Faculty and Staff Development
    d. Scheduling of clinical coverage

  4. Teaching of medical students, residents, and clinical fellows

Minimum qualifications (may be in process during application period, however, must be possessed by the time of hire) are:

  1. RN and CNM (with furnishing) licensure per the California Board of Registered Nursing
  2. DEA number
  3. Certification by the American Midwifery Certification Board
  4. Master’s degree in nursing, public health, or a related field
  5. Strong communication and interdisciplinary team work skills

Desired qualifications are:

  1. 7 Years of CNM experience (antepartum and intrapartum) with at least 3 years in supervising students and nurses.
  2. Proficiency in Spanish
  3. Expertise and/or experience in caring for underserved populations
  4. Experience facilitating Centering Pregnancy groups
  5. Skill in clinical preceptorship of learners
