Junior Specialist - Bickler Lab

The primary responsibility of the position is to assist the principal investigators with collecting data from patients enrolled in clinical trials. This will include recruiting and obtaining consent from subjects, performing computer-based cognitive tests, and assisting with obtaining data from physiological monitors during surgery in the operating room. Organizing and archiving data from these studies is also involved. These duties will be supervised by principal investigators from the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care.

A secondary responsibility of the position is to assist in studies that involve pre-clinical testing of medical monitors that non-invasively read the level of oxygen in blood or tissues. An example of these monitors are pulse oximeters which are devices that are used in just about every aspect of patient care. The work takes place at the UCSF Department of Anesthesia Hypoxia Research Laboratory.

The Specialist is an integral part of the clinical research process. Duties may include: performing assays on blood samples obtained during testing, enrolling and following up with study subjects, screening potential subjects, entering data into case report forms (CRFs), monitoring inventory of trial supplies and equipment, maintain laboratory equipment, manage subject follow-up according to protocol requirements, and work with sponsor companies for pre-study site feasibility visits and manage the calendar for studies.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher and experience working in some area of biomedical research.
