Position description

Junior Specialist

The Verkman Lab at UCSF is looking for Junior Specialist contributing to the research projects associated with pathogenesis mechanisms of neuromyelitis optica. The candidate is expected to work on the experiments associated with cellular and animal models of neuromyelitis optica. The candidate will have the opportunity to present their research at local meetings and earn authorship on publications where they contribute data.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.

Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree).

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are important. Candidates should have a quantitative background with coursework in neurobiology, neuroinflammatory disorders and quantitative imaging.

Required skills: Astrocyte and neuron cell culture, NMO cytotoxicity models, NMO animal models

Preferred skills: Laboratory experience in aquaporin assays.
