ASSITANT ADJUNCT PROFESSOR (ACADEMIC POSITION)

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery

The UCSF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is seeking an expert in Musculoskeletal Health Digital Technology for a full time faculty position. The selected candidate will be appointed at the level of Assistant in the Adjunct Professor series.

Faculty in the Adjunct Professor series are individuals who are predominately engaged in research or other creative work and who participate in teaching or individuals who contribute primarily to teaching and have a limited responsibility for research or other creative work; these individuals may be professional practitioners of appropriate distinction.

The selected candidate will be expected to conduct investigative work involving the development and advancement of digital technology for improving musculoskeletal health. Specific digital health research areas of interest within our musculoskeletal health academic community include wearable sensors, mobile apps, automated image analysis, and predictive analytics. This applicant will collaborate with clinicians on translational research studies that utilize digital technology for better understanding patient health status and improving musculoskeletal health outcomes. This work will lead to publications in peer-reviewed journals

Requirements:
• PhD in Functional Anthropology/Anatomy or Precision Health with a background in molecular environmental biology or similar areas of study
• A minimum of two years as a postdoctoral trainee
• Candidates must have a multi-disciplinary background covering aspects of basic, clinical and translational research.
• A strong research record as an independent investigator is essential. This includes evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and having the potential for external grant funding.
• Candidates will have experience initiating and leading clinical research studies and will conduct research that is of interest to both industry-partners and publicly funded agencies.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:
• Applicants should have experience teaching, mentoring, and advising trainees from the clinic (residents, fellows), affiliated PhD programs (doctoral students from the joint UCSF/UC Berkeley Bioengineering program and UCSF Rehabilitation Sciences program), and the joint UCSF/UC Berkeley Masters in Translational Medicine program.
