Position description

A Specialist position is available to study cell biology of collagen secretion at the UCSF School of Medicine in San Francisco-Department of Ophthalmology.

The Gould lab uses cell biological and genetic approaches to study diseases as diverse as ocular development, hemorrhagic stroke, muscular dystrophy and brain development that are all caused by collagen mutations.

The overall goal of our research is to better understand the cellular processes involved in collagen secretion and identify those mechanisms that might represent therapeutic targets. The successful candidate will conduct an independent research project that uses cell biology, molecular biology and protein biochemistry to elucidate mechanisms of collagen secretion.

The successful applicant is expected to apply for research funds, present data at national and international meetings, prepare manuscripts, mentor junior lab members and participate in a robust training program to prepare the candidate for a career as an independent PI.

The applicant must be hard working, passionate about research and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Experience managing large colonies of mice is also required. Candidates with a published track record in extracellular matrix biology, cell biology and protein biochemistry are preferred.

We are seeking a Specialist at the Associate or Full rank.

Specialists appointed at the Associate rank must possess at minimum a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization.

Specialists appointed at the full rank must possess a PhD with at least 10 years of experience in Molecular and Cell Biology or related biological science and knowledge of, or experience with cell biology, protein biochemistry and extracellular matrix. Previous postdoctoral experience related to the same.

Interested individuals should send their CV and contact information for two references to https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/apply/JPF02301. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
