University of California, San Francisco
In-Residence Track Faculty Position in Neurobiology
of Alzheimer’s Disease
The Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases (IND) and the Department of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), seek to hire a new faculty member interested in the biology of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s disease.
Specifically, we are seeking candidates who are using interdisciplinary approaches including cellular and molecular neuroscience, chemical biological, biophysical and/or advanced optical imaging methods to study the relationships between protein misfolding, glial pathobiology, and neurodegeneration. Of particular importance are candidates who have demonstrated success in building and bridging in vitro and in vivo model systems as well as parallel study of human diseased samples to confirm biological relevance of experimental discoveries.
The IND is assembling a cohesive group of independent scientists with an interest in discovering mechanisms of and treatments for degenerative diseases. The expected appointment will be in the In Residence faculty series at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. Both junior-level and established scientists are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must have a medical or doctoral degree, at least ten years of basic science research experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level with at least four years of teaching experience by the start date. Equally important, candidates should have a clear, exciting scientific focus for their work; evidence of originality, imagination and talent is critical. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a dynamic research program, interact with other IND faculty members, and participate in graduate training programs. S/he will be eligible for membership in the Biomedical Sciences (BMS), Program in Biological Sciences (PIBS), Neuroscience and other graduate training programs at UCSF. The individual will have a faculty appointment in an appropriate academic department and be a member of the IND. Exceptionally attractive laboratory space will be available for the candidate in the new Sandler Neuroscience Center building at UCSF’s vibrant Mission Bay campus.
Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully competed for extramural grant support from agencies like the NIH, and currently have substantial extramural support that is transferable.
Interested applicants must apply online at https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/apply/JPF02211 with: 1) curriculum vitæ, 2) full contact information for three references, 3) summary of current research (up to 2 pages), 4) a concise outline of future research (up to 3 pages), 5) listing of current research support, 6) a cover letter indicating why the candidate feels UCSF is an appropriate environment for his/her career, and 7) a statement of contributions to diversity.
UC San Francisco seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
