Junior or Assistant Specialist (Duan Lab)

The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a Junior or Assistant Specialist. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to engage in specialized research in the retina and the brain and to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service.

Description: The individual will be responsible for animal colony maintenance genotyping; molecular cloning and genome engineering techniques; cell culture and harvesting; immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization; animal ocular and brain surgeries; and lab organization and management, including biosafety, animal protocol and chemical safety.

Education and Experience: Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research method or creative activities). Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization. The candidate must have organizational and collaborative skills. Must be adaptable, reliable, and willing to learn. Excellent communication skills are essential. Prior research/wet lab experience and basic molecular biology and chemistry knowledge is preferred.
