Chief, UCSF Division of Rheumatology at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Medicine at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) seeks an outstanding leader for its Division of Rheumatology. The Division, currently comprising 5 MD faculty, is committed to academic, clinical, and educational excellence.

The Division of Rheumatology has robust research programs with emphasis on the use of clinical informatics and novel measures to improve quality in rheumatic diseases and on clinical and translational studies of rheumatoid arthritis. The Department of Medicine research programs at ZSFG receive over $100 million annually in funding. Research conducted at ZSFG has led to important breakthroughs in basic, clinical and systems research. The Division of Rheumatology will have space in the new UCSF Research Building that is being constructed on the ZSFG campus.

The diverse and highly active clinical programs of the Division include outpatient clinics (including a dedicated rheumatoid arthritis clinic), inpatient consultation, and oversight of outpatient infusions of biological agents. Faculty interact closely and regularly with their counterparts in Dermatology, Nephrology, Neurology, and other fields.

Education of medical students, medical residents and rheumatology fellows, in inpatient as well as outpatient settings, represents an important mission of the Division.

ZSFG and UCSF have been partners in public health since 1872, attracting physicians who are leaders in their fields and making ZSFG one of the nation’s top academic medical centers, training tomorrow’s providers and leaders and providing the best care that medical science has to offer. ZSFG is an essential part of San Francisco’s health care system serving over 100,000 patients each year and providing 20 percent of the city’s inpatient care. We serve the community with a full complement of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic and psychiatric services for adults and children. ZSFG offers compassionate and culturally competent care to a diverse community of patients in more than 20 languages. ZSFG is owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Public Health and is part of a city-wide integrated health care system, providing primary, specialty and hospital care for vulnerable populations. ZSFG opened a new hospital in May 2016.

We seek a Chief who has a demonstrated commitment to science, education and clinical practice. A track record of success in original research as evidenced by publications, extramural funding, and national stature is essential. We are looking for an individual with the ability to lead a diverse group, to work with hospital partners using a collaborative approach, and to mentor young academic clinicians. An understanding of and commitment to the safety net population is crucial. Board certification in Rheumatology is required.

The successful candidate will join the UCSF Department of Medicine (DOM) faculty at either the Associate Professor or full Professor level and will be included in the UCSF DOM compensation and benefits program.
